about

Part of a suite of eight pieces based on folk music from several Georgian regions. These dances and songs have different features depending on their origin, so that they are composed with the corresponding local instruments in each region. This enriches even more the sound variety of Georgian music. In the score for two pianos, these elements are represented in the different tones and melodies of both instruments. The suite is an eight-part composition, each one named according to its melodies and rhythms. Some of them have a marked rhythmic accent evoking a danceable show filled with sonority. Other compositions are more singable and romantic, as Makruli, representing a wedding cortège. We also find controversies between two poets, who talk about different everyday issues, like Gashaireba. Mskemsuri is an example of shepherds’ music.
