This piece was written in 1943 as a commission of the American League of Composers. Copland wanted to take ownership of the Danzón, a Cuban danceable music genre, with the aim to develop an original language with its own rhythm and sound criteria. He composes a ‘contemporary’ Danzón, in the style of music avant-gardes from the first half of the 20th century, including rhythmic improvisations typical of Cuban percussion instruments. This seductive piece transports the audience to the Caribbean music spirit with rhythms and sounds surrounding the sound atmosphere.

A work of beautiful, pointillist guitar from Martyn Heyne, the moving songs on “Electric Intervals” are made of tiny pinpricks of sound. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 11, 2017
